Payson Ranger Station 

1 Mile on the right.  Information on camping, hiking, fishing and hunting in the Rim Country below the Mogollon Rim.  Short exercise trail adjacent to the station.
Mogollon Rim Road (Forest Service Road 300)

30 miles north of Payson. Turn right. Over 7,000 feet in elevation, the rim is a 200 mile long mountain plateau. This scenic drive follows the rim 45 miles east to Highway 260. Vista points along the way provide an awesome view of the Tonto National Forest below. Fishing in the lakes along the way; picnicking, camping (reservations required in some of the campgrounds on the east side), boating, hiking and wildlife viewing. The road, sometimes rough and narrow, can be traveled in a passenger vehicle under normal conditions at an average speed of 25 mph. The road is not maintained and frequently closed in the winter.

Rim Visitor Center

East on Highway 260.  Information on camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, cross country skiing etc. Don't miss the view from the deck!

 

Woods Canyon Lake

 

Only 15 minutes from cabin. East on Highway 260. Turn left on the Rim Road. 5 miles to the lake. A scenic lake with developed campgrounds, fishing, picnic area, boat rentals, hiking trails and a store.

Willow Springs Lake

Only 15 minutes from cabin.  1 mile past Woods Canyon Lake turnoff on Hwy 260.  Another scenic lake with a developed campground, fishing and boating.

Black Canyon Lake

From Payson, travel east on Hwy 260 to Black Canyon Lake turnoff.  Travel approximately 3.5 miles and turn left.  Follow road to boat ramp.

 

Box Canyon Trailhead  

Only 10 minutes from cabin.  3/4 miles west of Christopher Creek.  The hiking trail goes to the edge of Box Canyon.

 

Tonto Fish Hatchery 

Travel 17 miles east of Payson onHwy 260.  Just east of Mile Marker 269 turn left (north) on Road 289.  Travel 4 miles to the parking area just outside the entrance to the fish hatchery.  Road 289 parallels Tonto Creek most of the way to the Arizona Game and Fish hatchery.

Young Road to 33 road, follow signs.

 

Rancho Tonto Fishing Pond

Follow Tonto Fish Hatchery directions.  "Hook em & Cook em", fish for trout and cook what you catch.
Chamberlain Trail

Excellent for riding your ATV from your cabin, down through Haigler Creek and onto Young.  Off Colcord Road, take back road to Young through Haigler Creek.
Tonto Natural Bridge 

Hwy 87 North of Payson, follow signs.
260 Trailhead

27 miles on the left.  East of of 51 mile long Highline National Recreational Trail with trails ascending to the Mogollon Rim.  The historic trail was established to like early homesteads and ranches in the late 1800's.
Railroad Tunnel to Nowhere

Take Forest Road 300 and stop at the head of the East Verde River.  A monument to the Battle of Big Dry Wash marks the spot, along with a sign pointing to General Springs.  Follow switchback trail down into the canyon, and the tunnel is hidden up to your left in a side canyon.  This is a difficult hike.
